J.C. Lozos , born in 1984 in Washington DC, was imaginative and energetic as a child, and has persisted to be so this far into life. Music has always been a big part of Lozos' life, having been constantly exposed to classical music at a very young age thanks to having a professional pianist for a mother and an opera nerd graphic designer for a father. Lozos has played piano since age seven and viola since age nine, started taking voice lessons at fifteen, and started composing at sixteen. In addition to musical creativity in performance and composition, Lozos has produced literary and artistic output on subjects ranging from the American Civil War to astronomy to various dead composers. Lozos graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in 2002 and is currently is majoring in music composition and German language at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Does Song Compose Heroes? is Lozos' first published novel. Projects since then include a sequel, a graphic novel dealing with the September 11th terrorist attacks, a graphic novel adaptation of Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, and various musical compositions. Lozos is currently continuing to compose, as well as drawing posters for various musical events around the Carnegie Mellon Campus, and illustrating more of Mahler's lieder.
